In the Q4 of 2015, Samsung is reported to have shipped 85.6 million smartphones. This is a movement in its market shipment, which stood at 75.1 million figures in the last quarter.

Apple however, was reported to have followed in the lead of the South Korean company, taking 18.7% of the mobile phone market with its 74.8 million shipment of iPhones. The other companies that follow in the top five-smartphone vendor are Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi. Huawei reportedly have 8.1%, while Lenovo takes 5.1% and Xiaomi took the remaining 4.6%.

In the top ranking of 2015, Samsung was the leading smartphone vendor. And the same ranking seems to not have seen any changes as a whole because Samsung retains the top spot with 325-million smartphone unit shipped. Apple followed, followed by Huawei and Lenovo, and Xiaomi with 231.5, 106.6, 74.0, and 70.8 million-unit shipment, respectively.

In the top five, the Chinese company Huawei, is reported to have experienced the strongest year-to-year improvement. “Usually the conversation in the smartphone market revolves around Samsung and Apple, but Huawei’s strong showing for both the quarter and the year speak to how much it has grown as an international brand,” this is according to Melissa Chau, a Senior Research Manager with IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

According to the International Data Competition, the worldwide smartphone market has grown with 13.0% shipment, an improvement over the Q2 in 2015. According to the IDC, the growth can be attributed to the gains from the emerging markets. However, the growth is expected to slow down because of the emergence of Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi, joining the race in the production of smartphones.

Conclusion

Accordingly, Android has continued to dominate the market with over 80% share of the market. This has also helped Samsung to keep its spot in the top. Moreover, the company has been reported to be pulling its energy towards the production of lower-cost smartphones. And that seems to be helping as consumers who can’t afford iPhones or the higher end phones but still want to enjoy all the exciting features take up these phones found in those phones.
