Vivo Xplay 5 Elite – The world’s first smartphone with 6GB RAM

April 15, 2016 Android New Launch

At the moment, numbers in a smartphone’s specs sheet is one of the most important factors in the Android game. With so many competing manufacturers – one offering better hardware than the other will certainly get higher sales.

Vivo Xplay

This is the reason why the Android ecosystem is the first to claim massive screen displays, incredibly pixel-dense screens, high megapixel shooters and deca-core processors. We’ve all heard about that in the past but the latest trend at the moment is significantly increasing a smartphone’s RAM.

First 6GB RAM smartphone

To stay in the game, Vivo unveiled the Xplay 5 Elite, the first smartphone in the world to come with 6GB of RAM. That’s right, this smartphone has more RAM than most of the laptops in the market today. Vivo may not be an easily recognizable name among smartphone manufacturers but the Chinese company isn’t new when it comes to smartphone firsts. In fact, Vivo was the first manufacturer to release a smartphone with a Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution display with the Vivo Xplay 3S. Unfortunately, the said handset did not get the recognition it deserved because it was overshadowed by the globally-released LG G3.

As previous leaks intimated, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite indeed packs a whopping 6GB of RAM while its design features dual curved edges not just on its front panel, but on its rear panel as well. In fact, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite looks like a cross between the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and the Xiaomi Mi 5.

What is inside

In terms of the specs of the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite, the handset comes with a 5.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Under the hood, the handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with the new Adreno 530 GPU and the aforementioned 6GB of RAM. All in all, this is a powerful set up, but the handset brings even more to the table.

Aside from a fingerprint reader in its rear panel, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite also comes with a generous 128GB of internal storage. In terms of shooters, the handset boasts of a 16MP Sony IMX298 rear shooter with dual tone LED flash. This is coupled with an 8MP secondary snapper found on the front panel of the handset. Furthermore, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite comes with dual SIM slots, packs support for LTE connectivity, and has a 3,600 mAh power pack.
